Feel free to download and take a look at the design book which highlights the process of coming up with the kneeling seat and making it into a reality.

Resume

Final Construction

The final product consists of several layers of laser cut cork sandwiched together by ply wood boards. The wooden boards provide structure while the cork layers are soft and cushion the knees.

The entire assembly does not use any fasteners.

Instead, four long wood dowels span the entire length of the stack to fix the layers in place.

The stack is then tied together using laces. When tightened the laces compress the cork layers together and the structure becomes very strong due to friction between the cork layers. These laces are tensioned using a turnbuckle hidden beneath the seat.

Even the seat is fastener-free and instead uses a rope binding to pull the seat down onto the seat post. The seat has a cut out which matches the profile of the seat post.
